I.e. if you do a protocol, and need overlapping functions, see if you should not do _one_... What goes on port 43 is a completely different story, and it should stay that way. What is going on on port 43 is indeed a complete different story. Looking at the dicussion going on about what the function of whois should or shouldn't be is an example about of this. But I wonder how big the overlap is really. In the hollenbeck draft the lookup function of whether an object exists is just a small portion of the whole draft. To exagerate a bit, since DNS is does also do lookups, why not add a whois function to it? jaap
