The failure to see is the concern. The change to the charter was substantive. The material removed was put into the draft charter based on considerable IETF experience, SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE IT HELPS THE WORKING GROUP PRODUCE A PROTOCOL and IN A TIMELY FASHION. The matter of ensuring working group focus is not a small point. It is at least as important as ensuring proper consensus processes. In my opinion it is, in fact, more difficult! Had you gotten feedback from Patrik to make the change, that would be another matter. Instead you got private statements of concern, did not consult the mailing list, and reacted to other people's fears, making a change in spite of this being contrary to a reasonable consensus on this list. I fully appreciate and respect the concerns you felt about the private comments and about expediting the IESG consideration. I even encourage you to keep them. The question is what was done with the concerns. Given the timing you were faced with, trying to expedite matters is laudable. However the changes were really contrary to the history of the list discussion. d/ ---------- Dave Crocker <mailto:dcrocker@brandenburg.com> Brandenburg Consulting <http://www.brandenburg.com> tel: +1.408.246.8253; fax: +1.408.273.6464
