Subject: Re: Tips for DNS zone administration

experiences vary widely, as do needs.

e.g. on the ns==a==mx issue. i know *many* simple sites where there is one
server. they see no reason to create multiple fake names, or worse fake
interfaces, for all the services; it just makes more cruft, clutter to
maintain, etc. on the other hand, larger sites have multiple servers,
backup mx, separate nameservers, ...

the technical protocols are the bounds of the box. within those bounds lies
the design space. and there are all sorts of needs and tradeoffs in that
space. e.g. it took liman and crew at least a year to settle on the ripe
document describing ripe-192 <http://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-192.html>,
dns setup for the minimal site.

this stuff is not simple or easy. and there is no one right way. and prof
wirth taught us that both the previous sentences should be false <sigh>.
