For an IETF wg mailing list, the messages which are rejected must be
sent to a human which then can make a decision manually whether the
message should be accepted or not.
The requirements for a wg mailing list in the IETF include the following:
- Subscribing to the list should be simple, and one should not have to
give away other information than the email address. Being forced to
do so violates the laws in some countries in the world, including
but not limited to, Sweden.
- An email archive must exist which anyone on the Internet can access
via FTP and/or HTTP without giving away any information at all.
- Sending messages to the list must be possible for all users on the
Internet, including non-subscribed users. I.e. cross posting between
mailing lists must be possible.
- It is ok to have a manual filter (a user allowing messages but not
spam through) for non-subscribed members, but never an automatic
rejection mechanism.
- Any time a message is rejected, the sender of the message should be
informed why, and a copy of the communication between the person
running the filter and the person sending the rejected message
should be archived.
- The user <wgacronym>-archive@lists.ietf.org must be subscribed to
the mailing list.
