Are you saying that folks have been trying to throw application data into DNS well before the effort to stuff applications in DNS? (This is certainly true.) My note was meant to describe the effort to define this key distribution effort and its origination in the DNS discussions. Why the effort was ejected will be documented in a draft on "Contraints on Using DNS for ..." As far as I know, all of the folks involved now (and they know who they are) have started in on this as a result of the work done with in the realm of the DNS Security Extensions. If there is work towards applications key distribution that predates this or comes from other sources, then it should be sought out. I don't know of anyone or any documents from earlier times or other places. If someone does, that would be a help. P.S. For the record, I am not convinced that application keys should be elsewhere other than DNS, nor am I convinced that they do belong in DNS. I do still lean towards DNS as a candidate, but am open to other ideas at this point. (Why belongs in another thread...)
