Subject: Provreg Design Teams

At the interim provreg working group meeting in Washington DC, a need
to form design teams was expressed. From the design teams it is
expected that they will:

    * do an in-depth study as to what needs to be included in the
protocol specification for a particular area
    * concentrate on part of the draft -or- design
      protocol while evaluating candidate protocols

There is a need for three areas of work:
    * a team looking at the base protocol
    * a team looking at the transport mechanisms/issues
    * a team looking at security

Given the very short timeline for deliverables, it is desirable that
the next IETF meeting is the deadline for the first deliverables:
a presentation of issues and trade-offs with possible strategy
suggestions from each team.

Protocol Transport Security
------------------ ---------------------- -------------------
Scott Hollenbeck Eric Brunner Williams William Tan
Patrick Mevzek Paul Chow Dave Crocker
Chris Ambler George Belotsky Bill Manning
Takeshi Saigoh Chris Bason Sheer El-Shownk
 Rick Wesson Jordyn Buchanan
 Paul George
 Zhu Yu

Recall that the findings of the design teams is not binding on the working
group, but should represent a concentrated, informed opinion.

The protocol team is to concentrate on the issues surrounding the
information or data sent between registr*s.

The transport team is to concentrate on the issues of moving the data. One
decision, among many, is BEEP/non-BEEP.

The security team is to define the problem - the threats against the
protocol, issues in the use of the data (authorized use and re-use), and
map these problems into issues for the other two groups.

Preliminary findings are to be presented to the group at the Minneapolis WG
meetings (March 18-23).

In a separate email, the addresses of the members will be distributed to
the design team members only. (Just to limit spam problems, most folks
here have already posted to the list.)

PS - Just to make sure all see this, all members are also Bcc'd on this
message.
