As far as I know, there was a similar short discussion in the IEPG meeting held in Dec, 1996. Somebody proposed to use the same IP address to newly delegating root DNS servers (the targets of the discussion was 'K' and 'M'). Somebody else was against this idea because if something wrong happens, it might be difficult to identify which server has the problem unless the routing is very stable. If there were a field such as "server ID" in the DNS response packets, sharing a single IP address among several servers might made sense. -- Akira Kato, WIDE Project
